Joan and Ueli 2004

It was April 1996, at the small regional airport of Boulder Colorado when destiny controlled the weather and WE met. A casual chat led to a journey together the years thereafter.

WE are Joan and Ueli Hauser and have our roots on both sides of the Atlantic. Each of us helped to raise a family with children in an earlier marriage and then, without knowing each other, decided to start a new journey, free from raising children as they were starting to have a family of their own.

Joan being a citizen of the US had her last home in Boulder Colorado. Ueli, a visitor from Switzerland to the US, was limited to 180 days a year which he mostly enjoyed at a mountain cabin near Estes Park, CO. However, being a roaming spirit he enjoyed to explore other parts of the world. Having learned to fly at the age of 16, flying was part of his travels. As Joan had taken up flying earlier it was only natural that we shared the pleasure to expand our travelling with flying included.

Boulder Airport, with a 4100 ft (1250m) runway is a regional field and it was only a matter of time that we met. Together we piloted our aircraft, a Cessna T210 Centurion with the call sign N85S. In spite of having space for six we appreciated the ample space behind the pilots for luggage and emergency equipment. On the following pages we look back to some of the trips.

Having still plenty of energy left we embarked not only on trips abroad but expanded our skill in flying. The challenge of Floatplanes was the first and Joan felt the temptation to pilot helicopters. Ueli found interest in engineering and built an Experimental aircraft, the KitFox which got the call sign N4JU.

Journeys by car added to the diversity. The warm water of ocean reefs added a new dimension with scuba diving in a number of countries, especially Australia.

After enjoying the excitement, recording some of our highlights in our first edition of WeFly4Fun, life has asked us to slow down. This is giving us the time and opportunity to do a make-over of the memoires and adding some stories that we did not have time to record then. Feel free to browse through the web-pages in their new edition. For questions or suggestions you can reach us under This email address is being protected from spambots.
